Marjorie Zauderer es una onc\u00f3loga m\u00e9dica del Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center especializada en el tratamiento de pacientes con c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n y mesotelioma, y es miembro del Consejo Asesor Cient\u00edfico de la Fundaci\u00f3n Meso. Zauderer recibi\u00f3 el premio al desarrollo profesional por su actual proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n sobre el papel del gen BAP 1 (prote\u00edna asociada a BRCA-1) en el mesotelioma. Se ha demostrado que las mutaciones hereditarias en el gen BAP1 predisponen a los pacientes a padecer mesotelioma pleural maligno. \u201cUna mejor comprensi\u00f3n de este gen podr\u00eda significar una mejor comprensi\u00f3n del mesotelioma y de c\u00f3mo se desarrolla en los pacientes\u201d, afirma Zauderer.<\/p>\n<p>La Dra. Zauderer comenz\u00f3 a trabajar en este proyecto hace tres a\u00f1os y ha estado reuniendo muestras durante todo este tiempo. Predice que se recoger\u00e1n suficientes muestras dentro de los pr\u00f3ximos uno o dos a\u00f1os para comenzar el an\u00e1lisis que podr\u00eda arrojar informaci\u00f3n y estad\u00edsticas significativas. Su objetivo en tres a cinco a\u00f1os es tener un medicamento plausible que ya haya completado las pruebas de fase 1 o est\u00e9 listo para comenzar las pruebas de fase 1 en ensayos cl\u00ednicos.<\/p>\n<p>En una entrevista, la Dra.
