Course Structure
32 hours over a four-day training week
Adheres to the training standards of the American Society of Non-destructive Testing (ASNT)
General theory, application, equipment functionality and usage, image interpretation and documentation procedures
Qualitative infrared (thermal) image capture, understanding and interpretation
Overview
The Level I Thermography Certification Course is designed for new infrared camera users and practicing thermographers seeking specialized training in weatherization, HVAC, electrical inspections and condition monitoring/predictive maintenance applications. This comprehensive course covers:
- Heat/cooling loss
- Moisture detection
- Electrical systems
- HVAC
- Electrical distribution panels and breakers
- Motors, bearings, and conveyance equipment
- Other mechanical applications
Upon completing all training requirements and a thermography field assignment, attendees will receive a Level I Infrared Thermography Certification.

Hands-On Training
The course includes significant hands-on components, allowing students to use their infrared cameras in classroom and field settings under the guidance and supervision of Level III Certified Instructors, who are also practicing industrial and commercial thermography inspectors. With a small class size and low student-teacher ratio, participants receive personalized instruction and support.Hands-On Training

To support participation, the IIIATF will:
- Reimburse travel expenses
- Cover five nights of hotel accommodations
- Provide breakfast and lunch each day of the class
Room and tax charges will be directly billed to the IIIATF. Participants are responsible for all other room charges. After attending the training, a travel voucher will be emailed to each student using the email used for registration. Under the IIIATF Travel Policy, travel reimbursement will then be paid to the Local/JATC.
Registration
Due to limited availability, early registration is encouraged. The course is capped at a maximum of 20 participants.
