The Insulation Industry International Apprenticeship Training Fund (IIIATF) is committed to recruiting, retaining and advancing diverse workers in the Insulators Union, including women, people of color and other under-served groups.

Our Registered Apprenticeship Programs consistently outperform non-union training programs in recruiting and retaining racial minorities, as is true for all building trades.

The timing couldn’t be better to start an apprenticeship as there is skyrocketing demand for construction workers to complete the massive amount of construction projects generated by recent federal legislation.

Why Choose an IAHFIAW Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship with the HFIAW offers a unique blend of hands-on training and classroom instruction, ensuring you develop the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the Mechanical Insulation industry.

Our apprenticeships are designed to provide you with a debt-free education, competitive wages and a clear pathway to a fulfilling career. We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to succeed.

Earn While You Learn

From day one, you’ll earn a living wage while receiving top-tier training. This means you can start building a stable, middle-class lifestyle without incurring the student debt often associated with traditional post-secondary education. We believe in supporting all apprentices, especially those from minority communities, by providing equitable opportunities for financial stability and growth.

Pay equity exists for union workers because of the transparency and equality provided by a union contract. Collective Bargaining Agreements apply to all workers at a job, regardless of their race or gender. Further, workers with unions feel more secure speaking out about pay and other workplace issues because they know they have the power of their union.

Comprehensive Training Program

Classroom Instruction

Apprentices receive a minimum of 576 hours of classroom instruction over the course of the apprenticeship. Our courses cover essential topics such as safety protocols, technical skills, and industry standards. You’ll learn from experienced instructors who are dedicated to your success and committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

On-the-Job Training

Outside the classroom, apprentices must complete 1,600 hours of on-the-job training each year in order to advance. Under the guidance of experienced journeymen, you’ll apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios, gaining practical experience that’s invaluable in the field. Our training sites are welcoming and supportive spaces for all apprentices, ensuring a positive and inclusive work environment.

Specialized Training Areas

Choose from various specializations to tailor your apprenticeship to your interests and career goals:

  • Mechanical Insulation
  • Firestopping
  • Sound Attenuation
  • Specialty Fabrication
