Overview
The Trustees of the Insulation Industry International Apprentice and Training Fund (IIIATF) have decided to sponsor an OSHA 510 and an OSHA 500 Course. Upon completion of this course, participants will be eligible to conduct OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Hour Classes. The classes are scheduled to take place at The Maritime Institute in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, commencing on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 6:00 PM and concluding on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
The class capacity is limited to 25 students, and enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
The PDF must be filled out in full and the applicant must have at least 5 years (60 months) of qualifying Construction Health and Safety experience. Pages 6-8 are instructions for filling out the form. You do not need to include the instructions when submitting the form. If an applicant needs additional pages for employment periods they can make copies of page 4.
Here is a basic summary of the types of Health and Safety activities that don’t qualify and do qualify for H&S experience for the 500:
Just working safely yourself does not count. Any work outside of construction such as firefighters, teachers, military experience and general industry jobs don’t count.
Health and Safety experience that counts are things like being responsible for crew safety, teaching apprentices on the job or at an apprenticeship, serving on a safety committee, being responsible for accident investigation, delivering toolbox talks, being responsible for JHAs, equipment inspection, competent person, being on a safety committee. Being responsible for safety curriculum development. Teaching craft safety at the apprenticeship school.
Here are a few common problems that cause the PDF to be returned unapproved. Dates for work experience must not overlap. The percentage of safety responsibilities must be at least 35%. Line 41 must be answered. The applicant must sign page 5 and date it. We can’t accept digital signatures or typed signatures. Applicants need to use the name as it is on their driver’s license.
In addition to the PDF we need a copy of the applicant’s driver’s license and a copy of their 510 certificate. If they are enrolled to take the 510 before the 500 please make a note of that. They will be provisionally approved pending the successful completion of the 510.
